Seam Issues
Today I have come across a problem with seams again, the model itself is still seamless but the seam appears when I add a texture. The reason this happened I think was because my UVs were not a perfect square/rectangle. I'll explain this later in the post. Below is a texture I have downloaded from CGTextures.
Original Texture

Seam In Maya
This image is from Maya where I have a seam with the texture on my model, even though the texture itself is seamless. The reason I have encountered this problem is because of my UVs.
Bad UVs
This was an automatic unwrap with a bit of relax, the reason it was showing a seam is because the UV's themselves have to match up on both ends. So not only do I need a seamless model and a seamless texture, I realized I also need seamless UVs.
Good UVs
Here I did a simple planar map on the X-axis and below is my result. You might expect the texture to look a bit off now but I don't see any stretching with the texture.
No Seam In Maya
Seam Sorted!
I have also decided that I would much prefer to put my environment together inside Maya and import it to Unreal as separate objects. I will discuss this with the lecturer but I'm not liking what I have experienced with Unreal so far.
Tested Unreal
I have desaturated the texture and put the model in the engine, this is the result with it being illuminated with the flame. I think it looks pretty good. My next test will be to see if I can add a simple decal of a simple cave painted figure to this segment of wall.
